What is Philately (fi-lat-el-lee)?

The name philately is derived from the Greek words "philos", which means "loving"; and "atelos", which means "free of tax". In their basic form, stamps are signs that the postal fees have been prepaid. Philately is the collecting and study of postage stamps and other postal materials.
